Just bought a car with just a permit, can i insure it and get plates?
I reside in NY, the title is in my name. Can I have my father who lives at a different address register/insure the car for me anyway even though my name is on the title until I get my license? Thanks everyone. PS_my father does not own a car , hence no insurance Michael, can i register it on my own with a permit and my father insure it. He doesnt have a policy. thanks

- The title must be in the same name as the registration will be, you would have to sign the title over to your dad and he registers it in his name and gets the insurance with you as the 2nd driver of this car.
- You don't have to have a drivers license to own a car, just have to be over eighteen. As far as insurance goes, their all different. Be honest with the insurance company, because if you decieve them in order to get insurance and you have an accident, they can deny the claim.
- If you own it, you must insure it. Using other peoples addresses is fraud.
