I am under 17, & have just inherited a car. Can I drive the car alone when I get my license and insure car?
I am 17, and have just inherited a car. I have been told by someone that I can not drive the car alone until I am 18, even if I had my license and was insured for the car. I believe the person means I can not legally own it. Can I drive the car (alone) when I get my license and insure the car?

- as long as u have ur license u can i m 16 and i drive
- well you wont be able to drive it alone your have to have an adult with you that has a drivers license to drive the car but if you have the license then you may drive alone with your car but it really depends on the subject your need a license and drivers license to drive it
- Depends on what state your in, in New York you need a licensed driver with you until you get your license I think you have to be 17 and a half.
- Well there could be restrictions on your license...but you should be able to.
- You can drive the car alone. added: assuming you mean an actual driver's license and not a learners permit you can drive the car without an adult.
- Its your car, you can drive it all you want as long as you have your license.
- There might be a few states where you have to be eighteen to drive a car alone but, for the most part you should be good. Check and see what your state's laws are on the subject.
- Depending on the state your licensed in will determine the legal driving age. Some states it's 18 others 16 or 17, I've even heard 19. Just call your local police station (non-emergency number please) and they can answer those questions for you. Also I would believe that you could own anything regardless of age, just your age determined if you could use said item. But that is probably up to your titling state as well.
- you are legal to drive your car.
- Check with your state's website for this information. It is the most reliable source you will find.
- Visit your state's DMV. Laws vary from state to state. Here is a link for PA.
- Once you have your license to drive the car (not a permit) then you would be able to drive it. The only thing is, since Insurance is a legal contract, you have to have someone over the age of 18 purchase the policy and add you on as a driver until you turn 18
