ie: If I own a car andits titled to me, can a friend insure it?

  1. yes i have my truck insured thru my mother and it's regeistered to me .. this was done to lower the insurance cost
  2. I don't see why not, as long as you're on it as well.
  3. It will have to be insured under your name.
  4. No. You have to have insurable interest. That means, if something happens to the car that you will suffer a financial loss. Since you own the car -you would suffer the financial loss if something happened to the car (not your friend). The only way for your friend to insure the car is if you add his name to the title so that he would also be a owner of the car. You can get a policy in your name and add your friend as a driver. A lot of people will do what you want to do with out telling the insurance company - or lying to the company (your friend tells the company the car is his when in fact he is not the owner). The danger in this - if you are involved in an accident your insurance company could find out that your friend made a misrepresentation on the application and deny coverage - IE - void the policy so their is no coverage. Best thing to do: get the policy in your name and list your friend as a driver.
  5. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. THAT IS CALLED INSURANCE FRAUD.
