What is the cheapest (relatively new) car to insure for a learner?
My 17 year old son is about to embark on driving lessons and needs to know what is the cheapest car to insure. It won't be an old banger but something like a 3 year old corsa, fiesta type vehicle. Hotz - I agree with you about the Fiesta Zetec. I've got a brand new one myself and I love it and it you think I'm letting my son anywhere near it yet you've got another thing coming.

- Something with 4 doors and not the color red.
- if you go on the parkers website they show cars in insurance groups so the lower the insurance group the cheaper the insurance, they also give reviews on the car (safety and performance wise) so try having a look at the cars in insurance groups 1 and 2.
- Look for anything with an engine size of 1.1 - as the engine size goes up (i.e. cars with 1.6 or 2.0 litre engines) they are higher performing cars and so more expensive to insure. You'd probably be best looking at a Ford Ka or a Vauxhall Corsa.
- Easiest way to find out...ask an insurance agent in your area.
- Most cars in Groups 1 or 2 try Wynnes Insurance they seem cheap enough. But is always debatable with any form of Insurance as to whether the Company will pay out in the event of a claim.
- Try a pug 306, ideally a 1.4. Ja.
- Well Daewoo will be ridiculously cheap and so will Hynudai.. The Matiz willl be cheap.. Have a look at the 1.25 zetec Fiesta. I own one of these and a BMW.. Mainly because I find the BMW juicy on short runs to work, but it's lovely on the Motorway and long runs on the weekend.. However, Ford Fiesta, these handle lovley and have a very neutral edge. They are very reliable and have a great 0-40 performace. Super economical for around town and short runs. Every thinf gis cheap on them and the insurance agencies get on OK with them as parts are easy to get hold of! if you want something with more oomph - the 1.3 offers a bit more higher end gear power! 1.3 uses slightly more petrol and thats it really! Otherwise have a look at Fiat Punto's - these look beetr but the relibilty is not top qulaity and have brake line problems... Do check Ebay for 1.25 zetec and you may find few good deals. May I also add that when one puts the right foot down that the fiesta has great handling!! I would reccomend that you take one for a test drive and even the Ford Puma is based on the fiesta chassis!
- i am looking to get a car that is cheaper to insure too. it is such a pain to keep going onto the quote sites and changing the information to work out what is cheapest! you know what would be great? - a guide on the insurance sites to tell you exactly which car is the cheapest to insure with them. i think i will get a fiesta as they are also relatively cheaper to buy too
