What is the cheapest car to insure, does anyone have an idea?

Public Comments

  1. it can't be a sports car. more likely an SUV.
  2. A non sports car with the highest safety rating
  3. call your insurance company they will be able to tell you
  4. Strangely enough, it goes by the VIN #. I had a 2005 Taurus with a V6, and went to a 2005 Ford Focus 4 cylinder with an alarm, and it cost more than the Taurus. Go figure that a smaller car with a smaller engine, and an alarm cost more than a bigger V6 with no alarm.
  5. Mostly mid to full sized domestic cars. I heard that the Saturns is one of the cheapest.
  6. It depends on the loss experience of each individual insurance company. When I worked for the auto club in the early 80s we had the lowest rate for sports cars, so we insured alot of corvettes and porsches. I asked this question (which car is cheapest to insure) to an agent at AAA at that time and found out that the Chevrolet Vega was the very cheapest car to insure. I actually bought an old postal sedan delivery vega, it was a pretty decent car once I put in a cast iron engine. The answer to your question is ask your agent. Each insurer has different loss experience statistics, so it will vary from one to another. You might find it's the PT Cruiser.
  7. There is too many variables now to answer you question. I have been doing this for a lot of years. Saturns use to be, anything American made was a good choice. But now, some of the forgein cars are just as cheap. Then you have different rates for different states. I am going to list some to stay away from: trucks with 4 x 4 sports car with high output engines luxury model cars 2 doors are usually higher than their 4 models convertibles I do quotes a lot of for younger people shopping around, and I just tell them to tell 4 make and models they like and we start from there. You are doing the right thing by asking. Some people go out and buy a car or truck then can't affordable the insurance on it. I had one couple who bought a small truck thinking the insurance would be less on it then the full size truck. Wrong, the full size truck would have been a better deal. Pick out a couple of cars that you like, and call a independent agent in your agent, and ask for a quote. Some of your cheaper cars (Neon for example) will kill you at the insurance office. So, do some calling around. Good luck with your new purchase! God bless us all.....
