  1. When my son started to drive at 17, I bought him a SEAT IBIZA, it was only a 900cc engine. It was very cheap to insure by comparison to other cars, I think it cost about £900 for a year. Although it was a small engine it was a 4 door and was quite roomy inside. You can pick older ones up quite cheap, this was a 1988 on e reg and I paid only £175 for it, It was quite tidy as well.

  3. A cheap used one so you don't have to pay for collision or comprehensive. Try Allstate insurance also, They have been pretty good lately.

  6. I can tell you, if you are in school, with some insurance companies the rate is lower. But If you live in a bad area (zip where u park at night) and if you are under 21 then it kind of doesnt matter- rates are always higher

  8. My Peugeot 107 is very cheap to insure (I pay £149 fully comp.- but granted I'm not 18!) and it also has a road tax of only £40. And at only £99 a month brand new with over 60 miles per gallon - Bargain!
  9. Hi! Sorry, but I've no idea! I'm really looking forward to some of the answers you receive, though! We had a quote for a £750 low cc car for one of my kids, and they wanted £1390 third party, fire and theft in their name!! If we wanted to put them on our insurance it was £1250! Best of luck!

  11. Do you mean cheapest car or cheapest insurance ? Popular family cars like an Escort or a Corsa maybe. But it is a 'postcode' lottery I'm afraid.Some areas will just be dear bcause they have a higher risk rating. Garage or no garage. Maybe think about going on mum or dad's insurance. Cheapest is not necessarily the best. Look for 'excess' levels for example. Try some on line quoters and feed in exactly the same info to get insurance comparisons.

Firstly try and get a parent to be first name, if they won't then at least put them on the policy, it will save you a fair bit even this way. assuming you have a driveway and a garage you also need to state you car is kept on the driveway at least, better still in the garage, thirdly, shop around, just because a company is good for someone doesn't mean they'll be any good for you. And finally, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE LOOK FOR A TYPICAL 18 YEAR OLD'S CAR!!! At 18 My insurance cost £625.80per year, and my car was a ROVER 827 STERLING, 2.7 v6 24valve twin cam multi-point injection. My best mate lived in the same area as me, we both had our mum's on the insurance as an added driver, not policyholder, he drove a Ford Fiesta 1.1LX, his insurance cost £701.03. This was in 1999-2000. You need to get a car that never gets smashed up, something that a grandad would drive but just happens to be extremely powerful too. A boyracer wouldn't choose this type of car and so it carries NO loading, where a Fiesta carried a 52% loading. So when choosing a car, select one you never see another 18 year old driving, A Ford Scorpio maybe. Ugly but excellent cars. And even the 2.3 has loads of toys which is nice, and 150BHP which is also nice as opposed to the 40BHP you'd have in a Fiesta 1.0. Good luck
  14. what ever you chose, do not buy a toyota or a foreign car as i can bet you he will wreck it and be rough on it, the parts and labor on foreign cars is double that of american made cars if not more. get something with a four cylender in it, and a sound body on it.

  19. A dinky car should already be covered on your hosehold contents insurance. Use public transport it's better for the enviroment.
