which car is the cheapest to insure for a newly qualified 17 year old driver ?
My daughter wants her own car but insurance costs seem very high - can anyone sugest a suitable car for a new driver that won't cost her a small fortune to run or maintain ?

- a 1 litre job is fine.. as long as it isnt modified.. also remember her excess will be around £750.. so best to keep to a cheap car and only have 3rd party, no point at all in fully comp yet as she will pay a bomb and get hardly any benefits!
- a 4 cylinder, 4 door car with good safety features....furthermore, some insurance companies will charge more if that type of car is stolen often
- Your insurance agent is the one to best answer that question. I believe solid little cars that can't be consider "sport" cars are the best bet...like a Saturn. But repair costs figure in as well. An insurance agent could give you a better idea. Also, an older car that can be insured for liability only rather than full coverage will cost you much less. Another way to keep costs down if you need full coverage is to choose a high deductable, which won't cover minor dents and scratches, but will cover in the event of a major wreck.
- There this big 8 wheeler, used to only come in the colour red but thay have variations these days - it's called a bus. Face it, unles she can afford a fairly new car, she is going to be paying out for maintainance costs. Let her borrow yours until she can save for a decent, safe car. It will also cut down on congestion.
- Try www.youngmarmalade.co.uk who set up to help young drivers. A 17 yo girl would pay £300 fully comp for a car going down to £0 at the age of 19. And they do some fantastic deals on cars too.
- definately get her a bugatti veyron btw. peace out monamee!!
- shes 17 so bye her any thing with a 10 pm alarm on it as soon as it turns 10 pm the car automatically comes home .:D
- To get cheap insurance, older the car the better and the smaller the engine the better. With that in mind the only cars to seriously consider are: Mini Vauxhall Nova Ford Fiesta Mini's are expensive to buy. Nova's suffer badly from rust. Fiesta's have normally seen the wrong side of the odd hedge. There are plenty of Mini specialists, for parts/repairs/advice. Nova's may struggle to find spares. Fiesta spares can be found anywhere in Europe. All are easy to live with, work on, and above all cheap to run and maintain. Hope this helps, Happy motoring.
- Honda Civic is always a good choice. Any small car that has a good safety record, is easy and cheap to repair, has safety features such as stability control, and is not frequently stolen is going to be the best for insurance. Of course, the age of the driver is a more important factor. Good grades, being in school, having taken a driving course are good discounts.
- I think if you are talking about a new car to be insured then it has to be the vauxhall corsa. They are the best of all when it comes to value, power, performance & pleasure.

- Find a little car with lots of safety features and that wont need collision or comprehensive coverage, just liability. Then get the VIN call the insurance agent, and ask what the cost will be. They can tell you for that VIN what the cost will be before you buy so no surprises. Make sure you tell your agent this is not yours yet you are shopping. Also some insurance companies have discounts available, like good student, some companies even have their own safe driving course that can cost up front but save in the long run. Remind her that every little boo boo she makes will follow her. And she should qualify for lower rates after she is on your policy for so long, etc. Your agent can tell you about your individual policy, that is their job, they get paid too. For maintain costs, etc, call up a shop and ask how expensive parts are for that make/model. They will know which autos are higher in parts, and harder to work on. Check online safety ratings and theft frequency also. Remember the cost of gas too, and that any vehicle, even brand new, is a little of a gamble. If she sticks to liability only cars that are pretty cheap, even little beaters, then think about how much the car costs and how long it should reasonably last to get moneys worth. We used to run a beater until it died and find the next one, still do. Most the time we get more use than worth but there has been a few times we haven't gotten all the moneys worth. In this case I would find a well reputable and down to earth shop or mechanic who would be willing to put a little customer service towards a regular customer. A perfect opportunity for her to sign up for a class and learn some basics on cars too. Every woman should know how to do a tune up, change tires, and know the basic workings of her auto so somebody later in life doesn't screw her like the bs'ers like car salesman or some mechanics, etc.
- I wont recommend a car but I can give you some tips. Ok you want something like 8 / 9 years old. Small engines are your best friend. 1.0 ltr is a good recommendation. 1.2 ltr is alright. Try and get something with an alarm and immobliser which well help reduce your premium. Small cars like 3 door Fiat Puntos are cheap to insure. Cheaper makes mean cheaper parts and less to pay out for insurance companies therefore look for small french, italian or japanese cars. Try and park your car in a secure place, a garage is the best place to park. A car with a good safety rating is recommended. Dont make modifications. Try and get your daughter to take her pass plus which some insurers like. Hope I helped a little. If I had to recommend a car for a newly qualified 17 yr old girl id say a VW polo or Fiat punto or Ford fiesta. Thats what they all drive down here in north London.
- a little corsa she needs a small engine size too so anything under 1.4 is cheaper insurance or a 1.2 fiat punto will be cheaper insurance
