Just bought a used car. Insurance laws?
I'm on my parents policy for insurance and I just bought a used car today. The registration is under ym dads name because I havn't had my lisence for over a year yet (9 mth). What I need to know is, can I drive today even though the car isn't insured yet? I talked to my agent and I informed her I was purchasing the car today and she said good luck, etc. Am I safe to drive it around? What if I get pulled over? I have the registration card. I just found out I am insured but I just don't have the card yet. I'm in PA. Can I just show the cop my other insurance cards in the mean time for my other two cars? Because it's on the same policy.

- In some jurisdictions, uninsured vehicles are impounded, particularly if involved in an accident. Wait until you get the proof of insurance card before you take a chance.
- If your agent says you are covered, you are. If you are worried about getting pulled over before you get the ID card, have her fax or email you a copy (until the "hard" copy comes) or go to the office & pick one up. If all else fails, carry a copy of an ID card from the other cars, tell the officer the car was just added to the policy & you are waiting for the ID card. You should be OK. If the officer is nice (& you treat them with respect), he may very well call your agent to verify. I have had officers call my office to verify coverage.
