What is the best kind of car to drive across the US?
I have a 95 Ford Escort, that I love and don't really want to get rid of, but I need a reliable car that can get me across the US. So what is the best kind of car to get, if Im going to be driving on road trips in, that will hold all my crap and can take a little bit of abuse, but not kill me in the gas department? Im not asking for just new cars, I want to know about cars that were made in 2000 or after too.

- Rent the car that you are interested in and drive it around before you make a decision.
- Kitt from Night Rider. He can talk and keep you company... he was made before 2000 though. And always seems to get into trouble.
- Get a Corolla. Its a car made for the basics; not much can go wrong with it, but it won't get you anywhere fast. The Prius would be a bad decision because you would destroy the battery. If you want to go cheaper, Chevy Aveo is a good choice, followed by the Hyundai Accent because of the warranty. Good Luck on your Travels.
- If your Escort is in good repair, it should be fine. If it's a wagon, that's perfect for hauling crap across country. Anyhow, if you're looking for wagons or hatches (which I'll assume you are for their cargo capacity and convenience), I'd say: Suzuki Esteem Suzuki Aerio Subaru anything Honda Civic hatch Honda Accord (have to go older than 2000 to get a wagon, though) Toyota Camry (fuel economy on most of the wagons sucks, though) Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe Ford Focus Mazda Protege 5 Mazda 3 Mazda 6 Volvo wagons BMW, if you can find one
- Toyota Prius, good mileage and Gas they are made in 2004 to present... so check them out www.toyota.com and please use wise to choose the hybrid instead regular gas that will run ur money out when u going across USA
- A wagon would be the way to go. What kind depends on how much crap you got to haul. Also, if you plan on driving in winter All-wheel-drive is nice. So, I suggest a Subaru Legacy or an Impreza.
- I think you need to check out a PONTIAC VIBE. Great car, great gas mileage, can make road trips very fun with its sporty look and reliability. You won't be dissapointed I guarantee.
