Best Cars to Insure

What is the cheapest and most reliable car to buy that get gets good gas mileage?

I have a Toyota Landcruiser and a Toyota pickup. My Landcruiser is a soccer mom type vehicle that gets maybe 16 MPG. The Toyota pickup is not as reliable but gets around 20. I'm looking for a commuter car to drive that is very cheap - say under $2,000 that gets good gas mileage, is reliable, and can get me to work and back.

  1. geo prism. same as toyota corolla but less expensive. look from 1993-1996.
  2. Look for a civic somewhere between 1993 to 1996
  3. you cn find early 90's corolla. im getting 35-37 on the frwy. going as fast as i want. at 60 mph. i get 42 mpg. no B.S.!!!!! and bought it for 2,000.00$$$$
  4. You are asking for a car that does not exist. You are not going to find a $2000 car that is reliable, safe and gets good gas mileage. Check out the Kia Optima. Every now and again Kia holds sales where you can get a brand new one for about $6000. Otherwise get a used one, but it must be at least a 2006 model. Prior to that they are absolute garbage.
  5. early to mid 90's toyota corolla or honda civic They are just about the most reliable cars out there.
  6. for $2000 nothing will be reliable. look for a 4 cylinder
  7. a geo metro i have heard of some with over 200k on them i know of one 170k on it it is driven daily into mpls on 30 mile commute.
  8. Don't listen to anybody who says you can't get a really good car for $2000. I've got a '96 Olds Cutlass Ciera that I bought for $1000 a year and a half ago with only 90,000 miles. The problem is that over the years, the public has set the Accord/Camry on a really high pedestal (not for any especially good reason), and so they cost alot more to buy used than they should. I would suggest a 1995-1996 Cutlass Ciera or 1995-2000 Buick Century. Pros: Very Reliable Comfortable Good gas mileage(I got 29 mpg on highway, with the AC on and going 85 mph) Cost thousands less than Accord/Camry of similar mileage and year Safe REALLY cheap insurance(mine's $600/yr, I am a 16 year old male) Just about the easiest cars to work on, with the cheapest and easiest to find parts. Cons They aren't exciting. They aren't slow, but many would find them boring I'm happy with mine. Great car, driven all over town daily and been on about 10 major road trips. My advice as to where you can find such a car: Craigslist. And as they will always tell you, get a mechanic you trust to look at it. That is the most important part of the whole process. I work on cars, so when I bought it I could tell it was ready for another 100,000 miles and I haven't had a problem with it.
