My boyfriend needs a really cheap running preferably rear wheel drive car, does anyone know where to get one?
He's really into cars and wants to get back into drifting but he can't seem to save up enough money to buy an expensive project car. But he needs it running. Any Ideas?

- You can get Volvo 240s in reletively decent condition for cheap. They're rear wheel drive, pretty good acceleration, and are easy to work on. They look sort of big, but its mostly trunk space, and there's a lot of empty space under the hood. They get decent gas mileage, I think the book rating is around 22 mpg Not the most ideal car for drifting, but they're cheap and available.
- There is always the ever popular Honda Civic. You could get a cheap used one or a cheap new one(the SI isnt cheap but it is your ultimate tuner car). The Mitsubishi Eclipse is also nice but for drifting maybe a Toyota MR2 (a used one from the early 90's). These are all easily customisable and the entire aftermarket tuner scene is basically built around the Honda Civic and similair cars so if he wants to get back into drifting those would be some good starts.....they are just very common and everyone seems to have one, but they are very easy to make unique and customise. You don't see many MR2s anymore though.
- Rear wheel drive cars that are cheap are Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis. Most cars now are front wheel drive.
- I've had a lot of friends in the same situation, and bought a few inexpensive rear-drivers to have fun with myself. In my experience, these are the best: '94-'97 Mazda Miata - I know, it's a Miata, it has a girly image, whatever. If you've raced them, you know that image means squat. These cars are cheap, adequately fast (~8 seconds to 60), lightweight (~2,200 lbs), extremely reliable, and loads of fun to drive. Aftermarket support is massive, so getting a well-sorted suspension setup and turbo kit is easy. Best of all, it's balanced and intuitive once you're sideways, especially if you've stiffened the structure with a rollbar and STBs. The Nissan 240SX is another good choice. They're also unusually cheap and reliable, and have loads of aftermarket support. Stock, they're not that quick, and the engine doesn't like to rev... but a few modifications will make it loads of fun. Just be sure to get a '91-'94 model, as the '95-onward models were softer, heavier, and less inclined to oversteer. Then, of course, there's the obvious choice--an '85-'87 Toyota Corolla GT-S. These are fun cars, too--I've never owned one, but a friend of mine has two--but they're getting expensive now that they're receiving loads of hype from Initial D fanboys. If you find one, it'll be reliable and relatively cheap to run, but you're likely to find more worn or wearing parts than in one of the newer cars above. They're not that quick in a straight line without a lot of mods, either. There are other choices, like an FC RX-7 or 300ZX, but they're going to cost much more in maintenance, insurance, and fuel. Oh, and don't bother with the Civic or Eclipse. The former is front-wheel-drive only, and thus worthless for drifting. The latter can be had in AWD, but it's still a big-time understeerer.
