Best Cars to Insure

Ford Focus (Owners Only Please)?

Pro's and Cons! Gas Mileage? Is this car reliable? Have you had any major problems with yours? Does it have enough power/i.e./"get up and go"? I'm probably going to get a "sedan 4 door" so it'll be cheaper to insure. Do these models have enough power? I hate being the "slug" in traffic, I need it to have good power from a standing still position(waiting on a red light). Any other useful information or tidbits would greatly be appreciated. I'm serious in this question. I'm getting ready to trade in my gas guzzling Jeep to get an affordable car. I've never owned a Ford before and am a little hesitant. However I believe this car would be a safe bet. I do a lot of driving, and a lot of long distance driving so I need something that I will feel safe in and won't be afraid that its going to break down around me. Thank you for your time! And honesty!

  1. Don't know if it's the same Focus as in the U.K but over here they're highly rated. I have driven a few and even the T.D.C.I diesel models have good performance. Take one for a test drive, you just might be impressed.
  2. I'm not an owner but I work on them and have driven all models except the redesigned model so far. Stay away from the older ones like 2004 or earlier as they had some issues with the first generation in the US that I find gotten taken care of in the 2005 and newer models. Power on the older models I find was down also.. For power the spi had some but I personally like the 2.0 DOHC or 2.3 engines which provide more power but get a little less gas mileage. Most people I know who have them average about 27MPG in theres Personally if moving from a Jeep, better idea maybe say a Ford fusion which I find is a little better quality and the 4 cyl has power, the v-6 screams and gets about 21mpg average
  3. I have an '02 Focus SE, 2liter. 72,000 miles. Gas Mileage? 30 to 31mpg. Is this car reliable? Yes Have you had any major problems with yours? No majors but several "minors" that were easy to do myself such as: brake pads front/shoes rear, lower radiator hose, motor mount. At 60,000 I took it to the dealer for an allignment - money well spent! Otherwise, an easy car to work on. Does it have enough power? Barely, but what do you want for 30mpg? Jump on the pedal and it will go. If you're on a short On-Ramp to the freeway, just turn off the a/c for a few seconds.
