I Have a ringing news in my car when I put my car in drive and go forward....any ideas?
I have a 2002 jeep liberty. Heard a noise this morning that could best be described as someone hitting a bell sort of when I drive forward...not reverse. Is my car safe to drive....or should I call someone out to look at it?

- turn off the cell phone while driving
- if u had a reverse beeper then the sensor could of move on ur transmission it is on top of the transmission where the linkage goes into the transmission it was most likely move just crawl under an check it out of take it to a shop they can fix it it should be a quick fix unless they have to take out the transmission but i see no reson for that so just have them check it out it should be safe to drive
- Drive it to a shop close by and just have them pop the hood and listen to your engine. If any red dash lights come on at any time, immediately pull off the road, shut down the engine and call for road service. If the yellow "Check Engine Light" comes on, you can continue driving the car to the shop.
- A bad u joint will some times make that sound on rear wheel drive vehichles.Chock the wheels so that it can not roll. Put he transmission in neutral & get under it & see if you have any slack in the driveshaft. check the front & rear of it. The amount of slack will let you know if it is still safe to drive.
