What kind of Used Car could I buy with $4,000 dollars?
I am about to receive my full drivers license. Can anyone recommend any type of Used car make and model with the price limitation above that is safe, reliable and is relatively cheap to insure? Also, what is the maximum amount of miles should I go for when searching for a used car?. The car would be for Home to School, etc. Thanks for your cooperation. I am looking for a fuel efficient car with a acceptable or higher resale value.

- Well, depends on what you looking for. As an example, I just sold a 98 Ford Windstar LX with 100k miles but new engine with 3 year unlimited miles warranty, and a 97 Volvo 850 with 95k miles in perfect condition fully equipped. As you can see you ca find pretty much anything from bad cars to good cars and in good condition. The best thing to save money is to take your time and look on classified adds, etc. If you buy it from the owner it will be way cheaper than buying it from a car dealer. Always make sure to take it for an inspection to a mechanic you trust.

I right now have Buick roadmaster on market for $2,000 has LT1 engine and not too bad on gas. drove from Kansas to Iowa on 1 tank of gas (average 28 mpg on highway) it is a very reliable car. Big boat though. It all depends on your taste. take a look at the consumer's reports guide books and website (if you have paid to have access) that will tell what areas are trouble areas on what cars.
