Somebody stole my catalytic converter is my car safe to drive?

it's loud and if I go fast it backfires,would it be cool just to run a cheap aluminum pipe in it's place to the muffler

  1. No matter what anyone says... it wont hurt the car, over time it could. But yes, if you put the pipe in place, then it get quiter and wont hurt it. However, if you live in a state that has inspections, then you will fail.
  2. if its newer than 96 yes it may ruin your computer. in 96 it was mandatory to have sensors after the catalytic convector. it will eventually ruin your engine and maybe worse gas mileage. but if its older youll be fine and get a hell of a lot better gas millage. as long as u dont have to get smog tested your fine.
  3. It's illegal, but they are usually sold under "for testing purposes only". Won't hurt.
  4. Cool for your ego, bad for the rest of us breathing in the air. Get a cat, it's required for good reason.
  5. Wow, stealing a Cat??? Yea its safe to drive, its only an emissions component, you should replace as soon as possible especially if you have an emissions test. Im assuming you do if someone in your area was desperate enough to steal it.
