Is it safe to drive car with 5.3 quart capacity with 3.5 quarts?
I overfilled my engine oil and in an attempt to remove some accidently removed to much. After driving 20 miles I checked the dipstick and it was exactly on the low mark. I added approximately 1 quart to bring it close to the full mark. The manual states that it takes 1.6 quarts to go from low to full. I kept the RPM'S under 2,500 for the whole drive. No lights went on, temp normal, no abnormal noises. Did I have enough oil to circulate properly? The truck is brand new and is my baby, any expert advise will be greatly appreciated.

- Dude, oil is cheap, add another quart and a half. It would cost you all of $4. Otherwise you will be letting the engine get less than proper lubrication. It will wear out faster.
- As long as it was at least on the dip stick and you only drove a little its ok, baring that you didn't drive those 20 miles like you where on a race tack
- Yeah it's safe but top it off as soon as posible.
- expert advice on answers o.k. first the low mark means the oil is low not out, it is more likely to cause problems if you overfill because the rod bearings beat the oil into a foam which is not the best lubrication. anywere between low and full is fine
- why are you goofing with the oil in a brand new truck? That said, youre fine, just top it up.
- I had a similar problem, where I put too much oil in my engine, and the car was smoking out the exhaust. I was very close to an oil change place. The guy only charged me like $6 for it. You might be able to find a similar deal. You could call around to oil change places (tell them your situation) and ask how much it would cost to even it out. Wal-Mart oil changes are only $22, if you're forced to get a whole oil change. (..provided your walmart has a tire and lube)
