Is it safe to drive a car with a broken axle?

The thing still runs, but the mechanic said it has a broken axle. Is it safe to be driving?

  1. Is this a trick question? NO it's not safe...................................................................!
  2. I've not heard of a car with a broken axle being able to run. Maybe he meant the part that attaches the axle to the frame. If it drives, drive it slowly to the garage and have it fixed.
  3. Is it even possible to drive it? I would NEVER drive a car with a broken axle. The chances of the car self-destructing and going out of control are too high. If you are still able to drive it and without anything unusual happening, then you either misunderstood the mechanic or the mechanic is wrong.
  4. It is very unsafe. The mechanic shouldn't have released the car if it is unsafe to drive. If something happens, you will be in trouble for having an unsafe vehicle on the road. The mechanic could even get in trouble for releasing the car to you in that condition.
  5. Hell no! Please don't risk it,this really is an accident waiting to happen!
  6. Yeah, brakes, axles, steering, tires, all over rated. Just close your eyes and floor it.
  7. Are you talking about a front end vehicle with an axle that is clanking while you drive and make turns? If so then you can use it at slow speeds (don't get on the highway) but the truth is you are only buying time because once the CV joint breaks you will be stuck on the road and will have to abandon your vehicle and then get it towed if there is anything left when you return to get it. Get it fixed ASAP!!
  8. yeah go ahead the fact that the axle is broken should have no bearing on that. i wonder how the car is gonna move with a broken axle in the first place
